The duration of a treatment is typically 45-60 minutes. The first appointment includes a thorough interview during which the osteopath asks the patient information about his/her complaint, his/her health and possible factors related to them. After the interview the osteopath performs manual examination. Patient may be asked to take off some of his/her clothing. Using the results from the interview and examination, the osteopath forms a personal treatment plan in cooperation with the patient. The osteopath can also refer patients to another healthcare professionals when necessary.
It may require multiple visits to get better or to make the pain go away, especially in more chronic cases. During a serie of treatment the osteopath analyzes the improvements in the patients condition on each visit. This makes it possible to find the most suitable treatment techniques for everybody.
